Best Practices in Science Based Incubation

Incubators and science parks support entrepreneurs to develop knowledge into marketable products or services. These small enterprises are considered to be a main driver for innovation, regional employment, as well as social and economic development. Therefore, incubators and science parks are an important actor in the field of regional innovation and growth. They have proven to stimulate the formation of clusters and to catalyze cluster development. But not only do incubators play an important role in the regional economic development, they can also support entrepreneurs to expand beyond national borders. A well connected network of incubators and science parks can attract international parties such as foreign investors and top talent. These elements become a natural connection for successful international clusters.

During the 8th annual Incubator Conference and Award “Incubators as Stimulators of Regional and International Innovation & Growth” international speakers presented various cases where incubators have successfully contributed to regional economic growth and innovation on a both international and regional basis. The event took place on 19 & 20 November, 2009 in Stockholm, Sweden, during the Swedish EU Presidency and was organised in cooperation with the Swedish organisation Innovationsbron en the Swedish Incubator and Science Park Organisation SiSP.
